Five different students came to detention and only four leave。 It happens when Simon has an allergic reaction while drinking water and dies later in the hospital。 Despite this tragedy we come to learn about the other students and their lives at home outside of school， which are also quite sad。 Cooper takes steroids， Nate deals drugs， Addy cheated on her boyfriend and Bronwyn cheated in class are all secrets that were exposed in a gossip blog hosted by Simon that was discovered by the police， yet Five different students came to detention and only four leave。 It happens when Simon has an allergic reaction while drinking water and dies later in the hospital。 Despite this tragedy we come to learn about the other students and their lives at home outside of school， which are also quite sad。 Cooper takes steroids， Nate deals drugs， Addy cheated on her boyfriend and Bronwyn cheated in class are all secrets that were exposed in a gossip blog hosted by Simon that was discovered by the police， yet another set of issues to deal with。Considering how often I pick up a book about mystery， I really liked this one， I was often surprised and suspicious at many times about the different situations going on。 It really emphasizes how the bad habits of stereotyping and gossiping can damage relationships and cause lots of harm to surrounding people。 -Death-Addiction-Murder-Abuse-Bullying 。。。more

Description: Five students walk into detention—Bronwyn （Brain）， Addy （Beauty）， Nate （Criminal）， Cooper （Athlete）， and Simon （Outcast）—but only four students walk out。 Before their detention is over， Simon is dead。 Breakfast Club meets Gossip Girl meets Pretty Little Liars。 Woah， I could not put this down。 The different POVs really do a good job of telling us more about each character， making them all quite different。 Each time the perspective shifts， the story keeps moving along， which I like。 F Description: Five students walk into detention—Bronwyn （Brain）， Addy （Beauty）， Nate （Criminal）， Cooper （Athlete）， and Simon （Outcast）—but only four students walk out。 Before their detention is over， Simon is dead。 Breakfast Club meets Gossip Girl meets Pretty Little Liars。 Woah， I could not put this down。 The different POVs really do a good job of telling us more about each character， making them all quite different。 Each time the perspective shifts， the story keeps moving along， which I like。 For this particular story， I think it would have hindered the plot too much if we had repeat timelines from different perspectives。 There’s not much else to say about this book other than it’s this kind of book that got me into reading as a kid。 It’s super plot-driven and mysterious。 It was an entertaining reading experience。 I like how it touched on a few different issues （I don’t want to spoil anything here， so let’s just say some relevant social issues）， but I wish it explored mental health more。 The book addresses it without exploring it fully like the other social issues （which is why I didn’t also compare it to 13 Reasons Why）。One more thing I’ll say quickly is that part of the reason I don’t typically enjoy or pick up YA is because I don’t like reading about characters’ inability to do the right thing， failure to communicate， or blatant immaturity。 But I just have to remind myself that these are high school students。 And that’s how high school students are。 That’s how I was too。 I definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get out of a reading slump or if for anyone looking for an engaging， “unputdownable” mystery！ 。。。more

While I liked all of the characters and at least one part of the reveal caught me off guard I had a hard time dealing with the utter incompetence of the police force。 Why was it all badgering and no actual detective work？ And the thing that never got cleared up: where did Simon get his intel？ Some of those secrets were pretty darn secure。
